塙町の中心の東側を国道118と平行して南北に走る林道。
塙町から入ると、0.9kmにある丁字路で道を間違えやすい。
広域基幹林道なので幅員そのものは広いが、一部区間は未除草の上、荒れが目立ち、狭く感じる。

板庭入宝林道と国道118をむすぶ林道。
とてもきつい勾配が続くが、特にきつい区間は舗装が施されている。
途中に民家がある生活道路。

真名畑八溝林道

県道196折戸と八溝山頂を結ぶ林道。
折戸側には八溝山へと書かれた標識があり、八溝山頂側には林道の道標が立っているので道を間違える心配はない。
途中二つの林道との分岐があるが、畑の沢林道は5.5kmで行止、茗荷林道は再び県道196へ抜ける。
路面はフラットで、幅員広く走りやすい。
山頂とふもとを結ぶ林道なので勾配はきつい。

棚倉町と八溝山山頂を結ぶ未舗装の県道。
久慈川の源流が横を流れ、とても美しい景観を見せてくれる。
深緑の季節と紅葉の季節はぜひ訪れてみたい。
棚倉町から八溝山へ至る最短ルートで有ることと、久慈川が渓流釣りのメッカのため、通年交通量はとても多い。
路面はフラット、八溝山山頂側はとびとびに舗装化されている。
南にのびる支線は全て行止。
丁度中間に、北にのびる大森林道との丁字路が有る。

古桧峠林道から分岐する行止の林道。
営林作業が盛んで、道の回りには切り出した杉の木が積まれている。

国道289側は能沢林道を通じて国道とつながっている。
急勾配のコーナーが連続するがコンクリートで舗装化されている。

国道121と七ヶ岳林道をむすぶ林道。
断続的に舗装が施されている。
七ヶ岳林道への近道のため、登山者や山菜取り、渓流釣りの人の車が良く通る。

甲子林道が全面閉鎖、廃道となりましたので鎌房甲子林道は今後更新できなくなりましたので、鎌房林道だけを別個の林道として新規に公開しました。
路面は荒れていますが、初心者でも無理をしなければ走れます。付近に自衛隊の演習場あるので、運が良ければ爆弾の音とか砲撃の音が聞こえるそうです（わたしはまだこの林道では聞いたことがないですが）。
この林道は甲子林道へは抜けられませんが西部林道と奥西部林道へ抜けられますので、白河から会津へとダートで入れる貴重な林道です。

鎌房甲子林道から分岐して羽鳥湖スキー場を経由、天栄村湯本へいたる林道。
西部林道の舗装区間は河内林道までで、河内林道との三叉路からダートとなる。河内林道は二股温泉へ通じる唯一の舗装路。
峠の北側は2001年の台風の影響で深い溝が掘られていて、岩も多数露出しているほか、所々土砂崩落があり、クルマの通過は不可能。
舗装路となった地点には全面舗装林道の河内林道との分岐がある。
